Sector in which the organization works:
Short description of the organization and its work to control and eliminate NTDs
WaterAid is an international organisation working to transform lives by improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in the world’s poorest communities.
In addition to the contribution that WaterAid’s programmes makes to the health and wellbeing of the communities in which we work, an important strand of WaterAid’s advocacy and programme work is to promote the positive health impacts of access to WASH and highlight the importance of access to WASH in realizing the Millennium Development Goals. WaterAid contributes to the generation of evidence on the links between health and WASH through its research initiatives and partnerships. As well as engaging with ongoing global NTD elimination processes, WaterAid is currently working to increase its engagement with the NTD sector, in particular on the full implementation of the SAFE Strategy for control and elimination of trachoma, the reduction of soil-transmitted helminths, and the mapping of water and sanitation as risk factors for trachoma transmission.
WaterAid's Offices are located in Australia, UK, USA, Sweden, Canada, Japan, Senegal, and South Africa.
