Uniting to Combat Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) is thrilled to extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Faustine Engelbert Ndugulile on his nomination as the incoming Regional Director for Africa at the World Health Organization (WHO).

Dr. Ndugulile's extensive experience and unwavering commitment to public health make him an excellent choice for this pivotal role.

Dr. Ndugulile brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep understanding of the health challenges and opportunities facing the African region. His proven track record in public health leadership positions him well to steer WHO AFRO into a new era of impact. Uniting looks forward to collaborating closely with Dr. Ndugulile and the WHO AFRO team to address one of the most pressing health issues of our time: neglected tropical diseases.

Uniting to Combat NTDs has long been a dedicated partner of the WHO Africa Regional Office and its Member States, advocating for and mobilising resources to end the suffering caused by preventable and treatable diseases. We are proud that WHO is a key endorser of the Kigali Declaration on NTDs, a high-level political declaration aimed at mobilizing political will, community commitment, and resources to eliminate NTDs.

Dr. Ndugulile’s nomination will be submitted for appointment by the 156th session of the WHO Executive Board in February 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland. The newly appointed Regional Director will take office thereafter for a five-year term, with the possibility of reappointment for an additional term.

We look forward to advancing the NTD elimination agenda under Dr. Ndugulile’s leadership and remain committed to working together to achieve a world free from neglected tropical diseases.
