Uniting to Combat NTDs is pleased to support Healthy Cities, Healthy People – a new initiative bringing together urban leaders and organisations committed to creating healthy cities for all, with a focus on reducing vector-borne and Neglected Tropical Diseases.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the vulnerability of urban communities, particularly those lacking adequate sanitation, water, housing, waste management, planning and transport infrastructure. Lack of access to these basic services has a significant impact on our resilience to all forms of disease, including COVID-19, other communicable diseases, and future pandemics. Mayors and local government leaders are in a unique position to coordinate services across sectors and to liaise with civil society and communities to provide such services and reduce transmission of NTDs, vector-borne and other communicable diseases.
Healthy Cities Healthy People aims to provide the impetus for a new wave of cooperation and investment to make our cities and towns healthy and prosperous places to live. Mayors, global partners and experts from around the world joined together to launch a Common Position and Commitment to Action on November 23rd 2021.
